Happy Lammas 2015!
According to the Celtic calendar today is the beginning of Autumn. Indeed, as every year, I can begin to sense the change of season in the air. Whilst in the sun I still smell the dry grass, dust and the sweetness of the linden trees I also sense the cold breeze in the shades settling into my bones and smell the moist fragrance of fresh mushrooms during the morning and evening hours.
Where I live, this summer has been wet and stormy and often felt very much like Autumn. During the brighter periods, however, the sun had strong power and on a few days we experienced with nearly 40°C a kind of heat that is quite unusual for these realms.
The times are shifting. Old structures are breaking up and even the seasons seem to show themselves in a different gown at times.”
Then, on the other hand, there is this sense of things finally becoming like they always were supposed to be. Just in time for the first period of harvest, here, in the northern hemisphere.
The wild herbs and garden herbs are now standing in their full power and are ready to share their goodness with us. Now is the time to reap what they are willing to give to us and dry the part which we won’t use fresh, right away. Right in front of my door we have quite a few wild herbs growing in the grass, ready to be picked and put into a meal. The first fruits of Autumn are ready to be harvested. A big plum tree with yellow plums starting to fall to the ground is growing in front of our balcony; a young apple tree as well as a young green plum tree are growing their first fruits next to the entrance to our condominiums. I am sure in the park nearby the blackberries are ready to be enjoyed at the old hidden place. And in the pots on our balcony garden herbs and wild herbs are greening side by side, making everything look like a fairy garden.
This is abundance – and that is how it is supposed to be. On the outside as well as on the inside. All we have to do is to plant the seed and then let it grow.”
What have you planted? What is ready to be harvested in your life, now?
