Path into the Feldmark in November

With Samhain Eve on October 31st the Wheel of the Year turned to the dark season.

In many countries the clocks have been turned back to standard time.  Many people now come home from work in the dark and soon they will go there in the dark, as well.  Outside it is getting colder and wetter so that we are inclined to cuddle in indoors.

Wintery scene through the window

Although, it is cosy to cuddle into the favourite blanket on the sofa with a hot drink during the cold season it can do good to go outside, every once in a while, to refuel with a bit of light and fresh air.

Even when the sky looks overcast a good amount of Light will penetrate the clouds.  We will get most of that if we actually go outdoors.

Those who work during the day could, for example, take a walk around the block during lunch break or, at least, stand outside the workplace for ten minutes to refuel a little bit.

If currently not so fit, health-wise, one perhaps could put on some warm clothes and sit on the balcony or porch for a few minutes.  Or those who have neither of these can, at least, wrap up warmly and sit at an open window.

Naturally, the light and the fresh Winter air are best enjoyed during a walk.  With warm clothing and a thermos of hot tea in the back pack abiding free nature for a while is actually pretty nice.  When staying in motion it is even warmer.

Walking is healthy.  The light is working miracles against traces of Winter depression, the crisp-fresh Winter air is clearing the head and stimulates appetite, the connection to Mother Earth provides strength and is warming the soul.  Research has shown that walks can even have life-prolonging effects.

After such a walk it feels even better to cuddle with that favourite blanket and also the hot drink is even more enjoyable.”
