1st Act: Encounters by the Wayside
After I saw so many beautiful pictures of the first dahlias on Twitter, Kim and I decided last Saturday to ring in Celtic Autumn this year with an early visit to the heritage-protected Dahlia Garden Hamburg.
The Dahlia Garden is adjacent to the landscape-conserved Altonaer Volkspark from which our home is only a few minutes’ walk away. Usually we always walk through the Volkspark to the Dahlia Garden. Yet for some reason our way led us along the heavily trafficked main street this time, past the Saturday flea market of the Bahrenfelder Trabrennbahn, the outer reaches of the bordering allotment gardens as well as along the woods that belong to the Altonaer Volkspark.
Along the paths in the Dahlia Garden various low-growing, ground-covering flower bed borders were planted and here also life was frolicking in a very special way.
On the way home we then took the route through the wooded Altonaer Volkspark, that later led us past the refugee housing which has been built on the grounds of the Bahrenfelder Trabrennbahn, and finally along the pretty gardens of the neighbouring single houses we made our way home again.
What shall I say…? There was so much to see!
Firstly there were all the wild herbs by the wayside…
…
…
Among the wayside residents were also some plants that I could not ascertain. Those who know one or the other greens are welcome to disclose their names to me!
…
…
We also discovered a few berries…
…
…
Then there were the pretty looking thistles…
…
…
And from the gardens some plants were stretching their branches over…
…
…
All the beautifully fragrant blossoms with their pollens and their nectar attracted, of course, many bees, butterflies and other insects. Among others, I have I believe for the first time, seen a live hornet. I assume we had this special experience thanks to the nature conservation area that is integrated into the Altonaer Volkspark.
Addendum: By now I am pretty sure that the hornet I believed to have seen was actually a hornet mimic hoverfly which seems to be rather rare in Middle Europe but quite common in the South. Images for comparison can also be found via online search, for example, here: Hornet Mimic Hoverfly Images.

What are your special encounters by the wayside?
…
Are you ready to shine a bright light of awareness on the path of beingness, today?
…
Much Love,
Steffi

Beautiful photos Steffi! Love nature! Recently on vacation in California, it was wonderful to see the gorgeous ocean and also all the delicious flowers as well. Thanks for taking us all on a walk with you! Blessings, Cathie
Thank you, dear Cathie, for stopping by and joining me on the first leg of this walk!
Great that you enjoyed the pictures, too. 🙂
The ocean is a wonderful place to be and connect with nature. It sounds like you had an awesome time! I have to check on the kind of flowers that grow near the Californian coast so I can marvel on their beauty with you from afar.
Much Love,
Steffi
