During one of the episodes of my Qi Gong video course, the teachers Andreas W. Friedrich and Eva Rehle spoke of the inner smile. It is the smile that can also be seen in the faces of the Buddha statues and which stands for the serene composure that ought to always accompany us – virtually the basic position for the inner stance. The inner smile accompanies and reinforces all exercises in Qi Gong and is, like basically everything I have learned so far about the underlying philosophy of this practice, also a stance worth considering for everyday life.

Ms Rehle explained that you cannot put on the inner smile, you can only let it emerge. To put it in my own words from memory, she said something like this:

Perhaps the inner smile is rather a reconciliation with the present state.

The image of reconciliation with the present moment I find very powerful, because it includes forgiveness in addition to the much-vaunted acceptance that is needed to tap into the full power of the present moment. This is important, especially when one experiences fear and has lost their faith. If one accepts this, it is a first step of realisation, without which nothing can move, but the movement out of hell and into the peace of the present moment only happens through forgiveness. Moreover, the German word for reconciliation – “Versöhnung” – implies that one not only accepts what is as something one encounters, but that one accepts it as the child (Ver-söhn-ung – Sohn – Engl.: son) of one’s creative power. Here again the combination of acceptance and forgiveness comes into play.

This also describes quite wonderfully the basis of the meditations as I experience them in the practice of Qi Gong. Meditation here does not mean drifting off into another state; rather, it is the complete arrival in the present moment, the deep immersion in the Here and Now.

This is very effective, because the power always lies in the here and now (as Eckhart Tolle also confirms).

In Qi Gong, basically everything is a meditation. Every movement leads us deeply into the present moment, anchors us there, and every thought taps into the perfect power that this moment holds.

So you could say that through these practices you integrate enlightenment and bring it into the present moment. In some cultures, this would be called the creation of heaven on earth.

Personally, it gives me a feeling of Geborgenheit (= something like security + faith) and transforms my thinking into thanking.

Are you reconciled with the present moment?
If yes: How did you get there?
If no: How can you adjust your stance within yourself so that you can become at peace?

Are you ready to shine a bright light of awareness on the path of beingness, today?

Much Love,
Steffi
