Last month WordPress invited us to participate in #Bloganuary 2022, the first of its kind. Having participated in #Scotstober, last October, also a first, initiated by native Scots speaker and Scots ambassador Dr. Michael Dempster, I felt reminded of the inspiration I received from the amazing Scots community around Michael I encountered on Twitter.

And inspiration was what I needed as I felt kind of silenced. The recent years have not been easy for many of us and even without the pandemic it would not have been easy for me. At some point, all of the strife shut me down to a very bad extent.

On the other hand, I felt low on energy and the conditions for #Bloganuary were different from the conditions for #Scotstober.

For #Scotstober we got the prompts for the whole month in advance so that we could pace ourselves if we wanted to. The campaign was run on twitter, so we could keep it short and sweet, if we wanted to. I already knew the initiator and felt very safe with him being the one providing the space (I am actually very shy, you know). Further, I did not have to sign up anywhere to get the prompts or support or to be seen.

For #Bloganuary we would get the prompts on the day when they were supposed to be posted. It was a WordPress campaign, so we were to write a whole blog post, every day. Me, I am writing my blog bilingually, so it would mean double effort. I did not know anybody who would also participate in #Bloganuary, so I felt on my own (yes, there was a chance to make new connections, but there is also the shyness). Further, I had to sign up for #Bloganuary and to be part of the community I would have to sign up once again.

In the case of #Scotstober, I saw the prompts and instantly had ideas. I was not too familiar with the language, yet, but the purpose was to learn. So, I simply started to work away on the posts in advance and decided to see, if I would be able to come up with anything until October, last year. Well, what shall I say! I had all the October posts ready to be scheduled before the month started and came up with soe more creative ideas along the way. That gave me time to engage, learn and enjoy the posts of the other participants during the actual month of #Scotstober. It was just amazing, like somebody had pulled a plug and all that creativity just flowed out of me.

Just in terms of writing more than a few lines I still felt silenced outside the #Scotstober community. And this even increased over the end of the last year.

However, because of the incredibly positive experience with #Scotstober, I decided to at least sign up for #Bloganuary without expecting me to actually having to write a post every day. I thought I might take the prompts and write posts at my own pace over a longer period of time, to get back into the writing flow. That is also one of the reasons why I did not sign up for entering the #Bloganuary community page. I did not want to pressure myself as pressure was the very thing that had silenced me.

The prompts for #Bloganuary came in around 1 a.m. my time, every morning. I know that because for the first prompt I still happened to be awake. As I was curious, I looked up the email and next thing I know is that I was writing a blog post. Then I went to bed, translated the post on the next day and put it on my blog. This became my routine. And what shall I say? At the end of the month I had published a post in two languages, every day, for thirty-one days.

Not only did I get back into a writing flow and unsilenced, I also learned something about my blog and the topics I like to write about, and thus, about myself. I became aware of the amazing archive I have created over the past ten years – yes, it is actually going to be ten years, this year in April. I noticed what drives me and where my passion is, now. Especially due to the various writing prompts that I maybe would not actually have chosen, myself. Well, this is another thing I have learnt through #Bloganuary – that I can take basically any prompt and build something valuable from it. I knew already that I had a talent to do that in life, but I ad not thought that this could actually be anything interesting to read for an audience.  – My drive and my passion, by the way, are still along the same lines as they where when I started my blog, but I would say it might have become less of a search and more of a focus, a meditation, a space to be.

Now, that I am writing this, I realise that this is the very reason why I created this blog. I wanted to create a space to be and help inspire others to find theirs. And here I am, today, just realising that I did exactly that.

What is your passion? What inspires you? Have you ever participated in creative campaigns or challenges? Have you maybe even participated in #Bloganuary, as well? What did you take away from it?

Are you ready to shine a bright light of awareness on the path of beingness, today?

Much Love,
